The example, line by line
Small embroidery shops often run orders of 12 to 48 pieces. This example stitches a 3 color, 8,000 stitch logo on 24 trucker caps, about 15 minutes each on a single head machine. Here is the batch the calculator starts with, worked out the same way. It makes 24 hats at $22.85 each.
How this is calculated
- Cost of each material = pack price / pack size x amount used, after the units are changed to match.
- Cost per batch = all materials + packaging for every hat + your time + time on the embroidery machine. In the example: $548.32.
- Cost per hat = cost per batch / hats made. $548.32 / 24 = $22.85.
- Price = cost per hat / (1 - margin). At 50%: $45.69.

Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to make an embroidered hat?
In the example on this page (embroidered trucker cap, 24 hats per batch, prices from October 2026), one hat costs $22.85. That counts every material, packaging and 2 h of labour at $20.00 an hour, plus 6 h on the embroidery machine. Your cost depends on your prices and your batch size, so put in your own numbers.
What should I charge for an embroidered hat?
Divide your cost per hat by 1 minus the margin you want. With a cost of $22.85 and a 50% margin, the price is $22.85 / 0.50 = $45.69. If you also sell wholesale, check that half of that price still covers your cost.
Where do the example prices come from?
From supplier product pages checked in October 2026: Jiffy (single price; bulk is lower), AllStitch. Shipping is not included. The prices make the example real; they are not a quote, so change them to what you paid.
Can I save this embroidery recipe?
Yes. Click "Save this as a recipe in Stockria". A free account opens with your materials and this hat as a product made from them, costed the same way as here. When a material price changes, the cost per hat changes with it.
Does this calculator change units for me?
Yes. Enter the amount you use and the pack you buy in any unit of the same kind: grams with kilos, ounces or pounds; millilitres with litres or fluid ounces; millimetres with metres, inches or feet. The calculator converts before it does the maths.
